2 Project Overview

What are we creating together?

Step 1: Tell me what you've seen on this site or elsewhere that like. Pick the color, material, shape, size, settings and bails that appeal to you.

Step 2: Schedule a virtual meeting, and we'll explore options. You'll be able to start your gemstone project by selecting rough gemstone material and actively designing your gem from scratch (3 - 5 weeks), or you'll be able to pick an available gemstone and directing desired modifictions and selecting the metal, color, style and design of the setting and bail.(Less than 3 weeks) If you start your project from rough, I will share picture updates after each stage of the gemstone cutting process from sawing to shaping to sanding and polishing as the raw stone is transformed into a polished gemstone. Non-refundable deposit and Invoice / Contract at this stage.

Step 3: Inspection and acceptance. I retain risk of breakage or sub-par outcome until the piece is finished and you are given the opportunity to inspect in person or via high resolution photograph. Buyer is at risk only for non-refundable deposit which may be used to purchase a different available item available on the website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about commissioning a custom piece

SECTION 1 · GETTING STARTED

✦ How do I request a custom piece?

Getting started is easy — just reach out to us through our contact form, email, or social media with a brief description of what you have in mind. Don’t worry if you can’t fully articulate your vision yet; that’s what the consultation process is for. We’ll guide you through every step from your very first message to the moment you unwrap your finished piece.

It’s helpful to share as much as you’re comfortable with — the type of piece you want (ring, pendant, earrings, etc.), any metals or gemstones you have in mind, your approximate budget, and your target completion date. Reference photos, sketches, or even a mood board are always welcome and incredibly useful. The more context you give us, the more precisely we can tailor your design from day one.

Most custom commissions take between four and eight weeks from design approval to finished piece, depending on complexity and current studio workload. Simple pieces with straightforward designs may be completed sooner, while highly intricate work or special-order gemstones may require additional time. We’ll always give you an honest timeline estimate during your consultation so there are no surprises.

Absolutely — and we love sharing it! Our portfolio gallery showcases a wide range of past commissions across many styles, from delicate minimalist bands to ornate heirloom-inspired statement pieces. You can browse our website gallery, follow us on social media, or ask us to share specific examples that match the aesthetic you’re envisioning. Seeing past work is one of the best ways to discover what’s possible.

Yes, and we genuinely enjoy them! We offer complimentary 30-minute consultations by video call, phone, or in-person at the studio (by appointment). This is your chance to talk through your ideas, ask questions, and get a feel for whether we’re the right fit for your project. There’s absolutely no obligation to proceed after a consultation — though we hope you’ll feel inspired to take the next step!

SECTION 2 · MATERIALS & GEMSTONES

✦ What materials do you work with?

We work with a wide range of precious and semi-precious metals, including sterling silver, fine silver, yellow gold (10k, 14k, and 18k), white gold, rose gold, and platinum. For gemstones, we source diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, opals, tourmalines, moonstones, and many other natural and ethically sourced stones. If you have a material in mind that isn’t listed here, just ask — we’re always happy to explore options together.

Yes, and we consider it a true honor when clients entrust us with meaningful stones from their own collection or family heirlooms. We’ll carefully examine any stone you provide to assess its condition and suitability for the intended setting before we begin. Please note that we do ask you to review and sign a short release acknowledging the inherent risks of working with stones we did not source ourselves — this protects both of us.

While rare, stone damage can occasionally occur during the metalworking process, particularly with more fragile or included stones such as emeralds, opals, or certain vintage gems. We take every precaution to minimize this risk, including photographing and examining your stone in detail before we begin. In the unlikely event of damage, we’ll discuss options transparently — including replacement sourcing — and work together to find the best path forward.

Ethical sourcing is something we feel deeply about. We purchase our gemstones from trusted suppliers who comply with the Kimberley Process for diamonds and who maintain responsible sourcing standards across their supply chains. We also work with independent lapidaries and small-scale miners whenever possible, which supports artisan communities and ensures full traceability. If you’d like to know more about the origin of a specific stone, just ask — we’re an open book.

No problem at all! Special-order gemstones are a normal and exciting part of the custom process. We’ll work with our network of trusted gem dealers to find a stone that matches your description in terms of color, cut, size, and quality — often presenting you with several options to choose from. Please be aware that sourcing specialty stones may add one to three weeks to your overall timeline, and we’ll factor this into your project estimate upfront.

SECTION 3 · DESIGN & REVISIONS

✦ Can you create a completely original design just for me?

This is genuinely our favorite thing to do. Whether you have a crystal-clear vision or just a vague feeling you can’t quite put into words yet, we’ll collaborate with you through sketches, mood boards, and digital renderings until the design feels unmistakably, uniquely you. Every original commission begins as a conversation, and we won’t pick up our tools until you’re truly excited about the direction.

Yes — we work with a small circle of exceptionally skilled lapidaries who can cut stones to custom shapes and specifications. This is a wonderful option if you have rough material you’d like transformed, or if you want a completely unique cut that you simply won’t find anywhere else. Custom cutting does add time and cost to your project, and we’ll outline both clearly during the planning stage so you can make an informed decision.

We can certainly draw strong inspiration from a reference image you share, and we welcome photos as a jumping-off point for the design conversation. However, we do not create exact replicas of another designer’s work out of respect for intellectual property. What we will do is work with you to capture the spirit, style, and elements you love — and create something that is wholly original and handcrafted just for you.

Absolutely, and coordinated sets are one of our most popular offerings! We can design pieces that share the same metalwork motifs, stone palette, and overall aesthetic so they look beautiful worn together without feeling overly “matchy.” Sets are also often more economical to produce as a group since we can plan the design holistically and batch certain fabrication steps. Just let us know upfront that you’re envisioning multiple pieces.

We understand that ideas evolve, and we always welcome a conversation if something feels off. That said, once fabrication has begun, changes can be limited by how far along the work is, and significant alterations may affect both the timeline and cost. We build in a structured design review phase specifically to catch any adjustments before metal meets torch — so we encourage you to take your time and be thorough at that stage.

DESIGN TIP FROM THE STUDIO
Consider the wearer’s daily lifestyle when choosing a gemstone. For everyday rings (like engagement rings), we highly recommend stones with a hardness of 8 or above on the Mohs scale, such as diamonds, sapphires, or rubies, to ensure your heirloom stands the test of time.

SECTION 4 · PRICING & PAYMENT

✦ How is custom jewelry priced?

Custom pricing is based on three core components: materials (the metal and gemstones selected), the complexity of the fabrication work involved, and the time required for design and finishing. We provide a detailed written quote before any work begins, so you’ll always know exactly what you’re paying for and why. We believe in full transparency — no hidden fees, no surprises at the end.

Yes — we require a 50% deposit to begin work on any custom commission. This deposit covers the cost of materials procurement, the design development phase, and reserves dedicated studio time for your project. Your deposit is collected after you’ve reviewed and approved your initial quote and are ready to move forward.

Deposits are non-refundable once design work and material sourcing have begun, as these represent real costs and time invested specifically in your project. However, if we haven’t yet started design work and you need to cancel, please reach out right away — we’ll always try to work with you as fairly as possible given the circumstances. We’d rather have a candid conversation than leave anyone feeling unheard.

We accept major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), bank transfers, PayPal, Venmo, and cash for in-person transactions. For larger commissions, we’re also happy to arrange a payment plan — please mention this during your consultation and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs. We want the financial side of things to feel as smooth and stress-free as possible.

The remaining balance (the final 50%) is due upon completion of your piece, before it is shipped or handed over to you. We’ll notify you with photos of your finished piece so you can see it in all its glory before making your final payment. For in-person pickup, payment is simply settled at the time of collection.

SECTION 5 · SHIPPING & RETURNS

✦ How will I receive my finished piece?

Your finished piece will be beautifully packaged and sent via fully insured, signature-required shipping to ensure it arrives safely. We ship domestically and internationally, and we’ll provide a tracking number as soon as your parcel is dispatched. Local clients are also welcome to collect their piece in person at the studio — always a lovely moment we enjoy being part of!

Your satisfaction genuinely matters to us, and we stand firmly behind the quality of our work. Because custom pieces are made to your approved design specifications, we don’t accept returns, but we do offer complimentary adjustments for fit issues (such as ring sizing) or any finishing details that don’t quite match what was agreed upon. Please reach out to us within 14 days of receiving your piece and we’ll make it right — no fuss, no argument.

Yes — all of our custom pieces carry a 12-month craftsmanship warranty covering any defects in metalwork or stone setting under normal wear conditions. This doesn’t cover damage from accidents, improper care, or modifications made by another jeweler, but it does mean you can wear your piece with confidence knowing we stand behind every solder joint and prong. If anything ever feels loose or looks off, just get in touch and we’ll take a look.

Most custom jewelry benefits from a few simple habits: remove it before swimming, exercising, or applying lotions and perfumes; store it individually in a soft pouch or lined box to prevent scratching; and clean it gently with a soft cloth and mild soapy water when needed. We recommend bringing your piece back to us (or to a trusted local jeweler) for a professional clean and stone-check once a year. A little care goes a very long way in keeping your piece as beautiful as the day you received it.
